Our Purpose

ALO is a Bengali word meaning ‘to light’ or ‘to give hope’. Our purpose is to let knowledge empower women and to give minorities a voice. It reflects the organization’s goal to broaden understanding of gender issues, discrimination and unconscious biases that perpetuate gender stereotypes in society. ALO is guided by the international frameworks on gender equality, women’s rights, and empowerment such as the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Beijing Platform for Action, and the Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 5, Gender Equality).
